One slow sink is usually a localized plumbing problem. When every sink, toilet, tub and shower in your home starts draining slowly, the problem may be farther down the line—and your septic system could be involved.
Slow drains throughout the house can indicate a full septic tank, blocked main line, clogged filter, pump failure or drain-field problem. Because several different issues can create similar symptoms, it is important to identify the cause before slow drainage turns into a sewage backup.
Why Are Multiple Drains Slowing Down at the Same Time?
Every drain in your home eventually connects to the main line leading to your septic tank. When wastewater cannot move through that shared portion of the system properly, several fixtures may begin draining slowly at approximately the same time.

Reduce Household Water Use
Stop running the washing machine and dishwasher, postpone showers and avoid repeatedly flushing toilets. Sending more water into a restricted system increases the risk of wastewater backing up into the home.
Check for Other Warning Signs
Look and listen for:

Sewage odors

Standing water near the tank or drain field

Avoid Chemical Drain Cleaners

Will Pumping the Septic Tank Fix Slow Drains?
Pumping can resolve slow drainage when accumulated sludge and solids have reduced the septic tank’s capacity. It can also allow the technician to examine the tank, baffles, filter, inlet, outlet and other components.
